Sumner & Tabor Solicitors was established in Berkhamsted in 1984 by Gillian Tabor and Geoffrey Sumner. In October 2000 Kathryn Ainsworth joined the firm as a Partner. Geoffrey Sumner has now retired. Carey Vigor was promoted to Partner in February 2010 and Meg Cooper was appointed a Partner in October 2010. Selena Ludick joined the firm in October 2011 as a Partner in our family law team. Together our highly qualified and experienced team of Partners and Support Specialists provide an excellent level of service in specialist areas of law.

GILLIAN TABOR

Gillian Tabor is one of the founder members of Sumner & Tabor and became Senior Partner in January 2006. Having qualified in 1981 Gillian Tabor's career has covered most aspects of legal work. She now has over 20 years experience in Family Law, and in 2005 obtained an LLM in Advanced Matrimonial Legal Practice. Mrs. Tabor is a Resolution (formerly Solicitors Family Law Association) Accredited Specialist in Pensions and High Net Asset cases. She has a sound reputation for skilful negotiation and advocacy attracting clients from not only the local area but nationwide. Gillian Tabor also has overall supervision of the firm's conveyancing practice.

KATHRYN AINSWORTH

Kathryn Ainsworth's experience in Family Law dates from 1987 and having first qualified as a Legal Executive, she went on to qualify as a solicitor in 1995. Originally practising in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, Kathryn Ainsworth moved to a large practice in Aylesbury in 1996 and subsequently became a partner in that practice before joining Sumner & Tabor in October 2000. She specialises in Family Law and has qualified as an Advanced Family Law Panel Member, with papers submitted on Appeals and cases involving foreign elements.  She is also a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) and a qualified Collaborative Lawyer.

In addition, Kathryn Ainsworth has established a solid reputation in the field of Employment Law acting for both employers and employees.

She has reported cases in both Family and Employment law. For details see: G v G (Matrimonial Property: Rights of Extended Family) [2006] 1 FLR 62 and Clark & Tokeley Ltd v Oakes 1999 ICR 276, CA.

All partners are supported by an expert team not only within the firm but of specialised Counsel with whom we work closely.

SELENA LUDICK

Selena Ludick has practised exclusively in family law since qualification in 1996. She is a Resolution trained Mediator and a member of Resolution. She advises on the financial consequences of a relationship breakdown either between a husband and wife or between couples who have been living together but were not married. Selena aims to bring a constructive and creative approach to problem solving and, where possible, tries to achieve a fair settlement by negotiation.
Selena places equal emphasis on her Children Law practice and advises parents on all aspects of the Law relating to children including contact and residence with particular expertise on cases involving a child being moved to another country.

CAREY VIGOR

Carey Vigor undertook her training contract with Sumner & Tabor and has remained with the firm following qualification in 2005. Having originally specialised in Family Law, she transferred to the Conveyancing Department in January 2007 and now heads that department alongside Mary Johnson. Carey was promoted to Partner in February 2010.
Carey has fast developed a reputation for methodical, practical and accurate case analysis with an easy manner clients find extremely helpful.

MEG COOPER

Meg Cooper joined Sumner & Tabor in 2004 as a trainee legal executive and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives in 2008. She specialises in Probate and Wills and was appointed a Partner in the firm in October 2010. Meg has a practical and calm manner, whilst displaying the necessary sensitivity required in this complex area of law and has established a growing reputation in the area.

MARY JOHNSON

Mary Johnson has been Sumner & Tabor's domestic conveyancing executive since 1995, having been with the firm since its inception. Mary has considerable local knowledge and is well respected by agents and clients alike. She also provides on going care for clients wherever their move takes them.

OTHER MEMBERS OF SUMNER & TABOR

Barbara Coppin is the firm's accounts manager with overall responsibility for the firm's financial structure and is assisted on a part time basis by David Burbidge.

Invaluable assistance is provided to Gillian Tabor by her long term secretary/personal assistant, Angela Corazzi who is supported by Fiona Huggett. Kathryn Ainsworth is very grateful to have the support of her long term secretary/personal assistant , Suzanne Perkins.

Secretarial support in the conveyancing department is provided by Annette Newton who has many years experience in a number of areas of legal work.

Our receptionist is Mandy Tierney who has been with the firm since 2002. Mandy is often praised by clients for her efficient, polite and attentive service.

John Tabor provides the firm's IT support ensuring the firm's IT infrastructure remains safe and sound from the dangers technology can attract. He has overseen the installation of the firm's e-conveyancing case management program Conveyance Link which enables our clients to "log in" and see the stage of their conveyancing transaction at any time to suit them and receive text message updates at crucial stages of their transaction.
